Global Change, Local Action!

Earth Week Logo

Earth Day Eco-Fair

Where: Charlottesville High School's practice football field & track

When: April 19, 2008 from 10 am - 3 pm

What: The best Eco-Fair we've ever put on!

Start the day off with the "Tread Lightly" trail walk/run on a 3mile/5K loop will take place on the trails around CHS and McIntire Park, with start & finish at the CHS track. Refreshments will be available for race participants and those who arrive at the Eco-Fair using creative transportation. See the Discover Transportation Freedom page for ideas!

Spend the rest of the day learning how you and your family can make local adjustments to address global climate change. Be sure to bring picnic blankets, lawn chairs, frisbees etc. for all-day fun on the CHS field! A PDF map of the set up is available here. You can save a copy to your computer and print it off for handy reference.

Kids are definitely welcome—in fact we've got several activities geared toward them listed below. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the field, per CHS regulations (understandable, since their athletes will have to use it again for practice come Monday).

Tabling assignments and a map of the field lay-out are up! The map is at http://www.earthweek.org/EW-Field.jpg and is a large graphic file. The Final Tablers list with area assignment info is at http://www.earthweek.org/tablers.pdf.

What's Happening at Earth Day?

First, this is an off-the-grid event, thanks to Paul Risburg and the team at AltEnergy, Inc., who are supplying us with solar power for the Eco-Fair. That in and of itself is worth the trip--our entire bandstand will be powered by the sun!
