Home Composting Workshop, 7:00 pm
TJPDC, Piedmont Master Gardeners
A Home Composting Workshop co-sponsored by The Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission and Piedmont Master Gardeners is to be held at the Albemarle County Office Building on Fifth Extended on Monday, April 20 at 7 PM. Participants will learn how to improve their soil quality while reducing what they send to the landfill – and have a chance to win a free compost bin! Additional compost bins will be available at cost, and light refreshments will be served. Keep Nelson Beautiful is hosting a free program on global warming for Earth Day 2009, featuring Mike Tabony – a retired Exxon-Mobile tugboat captain who now lives in Nelson. Mike has read, written and lectured extensively on global warming. The event will be at the Rockfish Valley Community Center.

Since May 2007, The Habitat Store has sponsored Green Matters: a series of free workshops about making your home more environmentally friendly, on topics such as residential energy audits, solar power, LEED certification, indoor air quality and Earthcraft construction. The last Green Matters will be held on Wednesday, April 22, at the historic Paramount Theater Downtown. This is a great opportunity to learn about local services for energy efficiency, green building, affordable housing, and water conservation.
